Sayana joined Tan Rajah & Cheah as a partner in 1995 having previously practised with Arthur Loke & Partners, Wong Yoong Tan & Molly Lim and Wong Partnership.
Sayana has extensive experience in advising individuals and corporate clients including private equity firms, fintech firms, start-ups, shareholders on a wide range of commercial transactions.
In addition, he regularly advises on complex commercial litigation and arbitration strategy.
Professional Experience
- Advising on share and asset transactions
- Advising on the rights of shareholders under shareholder agreements
- Advising on loan, employment, franchising and other commercial contracts
- Acted for a private equity firm in disputes concerning the holding company of TWG Tea, leading to a successful winding up application in the High Court, affirmed on appeal
- Acted for SMI Investments Pte Ltd against Hyflux Limited in claims before the High Court involving complex issues of interpretation and novel issues concerning the bringing of claims against a company protected by statutory moratorium
- Acted for a listed company in the High Court and in arbitration of disputes with its Seychelles joint venture partner relating to their joint venture for the building and operation of telecom towers in Myanmar. Issues included disputes as to jurisdiction and interpretation of pre-emption provisions in the joint venture
