Sudhershen is a dispute resolution lawyer who has created a niche for himself in family law. He has been recognised for his work in family law by clients and fellow members of the bar and has been listed as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation in each year since 2021. His views on family law matters have been sought by the media and he has published commentary articles for a local news agency. He is an accredited mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Institute and also maintains an active civil and commercial litigation practice.
As a former professional football player, Sudhershen has also used his experience in sport to grow his practice in sports law as well and has been a legal advisor to a football club, assisted in setting up a national sports association and has been appointed by MCCY as a Legal Member of the Safe Sport Disciplinary Panel. In particular, his views on football in Singapore have been sought regularly and he has written numerous commentary articles on football in Singapore.
Outside of practice, Sudhershen is an active volunteer with a charity that mentors at risk youth and is a former director of the charity.
Professional Experience
Family and Private Client Practice
VHA v VHB [2020] SGFC 31 – Acted for a Defendant/Mother in a highly contentious matter involving the care of a young child. There were numerous allegations of mental instability and illness against the mother. The Court commented in its judgment that “Without her solicitors, I think it would have been much harder for her to withstand the pressure of litigation”.
VGY v VGZ [2020] SGHCF 6 – Successfully acted for the Respondent as counsel in defending the Appellant’s appeal against the striking out of parts of the Appellant’s Affidavit of Assets and Means.
CLD v CLE [2021] SGHCF 12 – Acted as counsel for the Defendant in an application to determine the operative date to ascertain the pool of matrimonial assets.
Successfully acted for a Defendant/Mother in an application for an order for committal against her wherein the Plaintiff alleged that the Defendant had breached access orders on 30 occasions. The Plaintiff’s application was dismissed in its entirety after a contested trial.
Civil and Commercial Practice
- Hyflux Ltd v SM Investments Pte Ltd [2020] 4 SLR 1265 – Acted for the Defendant in its claim for a refund of the deposit of more than $37m paid in relation to a restructuring deal with the Plaintiff.
